Oceanway consultation points to community backing for remaining links
Published · Cenlocal summary
More than 3,500 validated responses have informed the City’s next steps on completing its coastal shared pathway.

The City of Gold Coast says more than 3,500 validated survey responses informed consultation on completing the Oceanway, with ninety per cent supporting the remaining sections. About 11.75 kilometres of missing pathway would connect existing segments into a continuous 36-kilometre route between Coolangatta and The Spit.
Five gaps remain at Main Beach, Mermaid Beach, Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach and Currumbin. Council says technical, environmental and coastal engineering assessments are underway to support state and federal approval processes.
The response supports further planning, not an announcement that all construction is approved. Future design must address erosion, storm impacts, constrained space and sensitive coastal environments. The announcement does not establish a construction timetable for every remaining link.
