Melbourne International Games Week returns from Friday 2 to Sunday 11 October 2026, bringing players, developers, students and the wider games industry together across the city.
ACMI, which is delivering the festival for the first time this year, describes Games Week as the largest festival of its kind in the Asia-Pacific.
What's planned
According to ACMI, the 10-day program includes:
- Public activities and showcases for players of all ages
- Business development events and conferences for the games industry
- Education opportunities, including Careers + Frontiers, a one-day symposium for students, educators, career advisers and parents interested in working in games
- A Games Week film program at ACMI, featuring videogame adaptations and developer documentaries
Free indie games showcase
ACMI has announced a free pop-up Games Week Showcase featuring more than 100 independent games from Australia and overseas, with visitors able to vote for the ACMI Audience Award at the Australian Game Developer Awards.
Where it's happening
ACMI says the festival is anchored around hubs including ACMI and Fed Square and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and South Wharf, with events at other venues across Melbourne.
A new Discover Local Community (DLC) program also lists community-run games events at venues across Greater Melbourne.
