A reopened Birrarung Marr playground, new green space in Southbank and the next step for the North Melbourne Community Hub.

Here's a roundup of recent community updates from around the City of Melbourne.
Birrarung Marr playground reopens
The popular playground at Birrarung Marr has reopened after a City of Melbourne upgrade shaped by community consultation. It includes new slides, a basket swing, a climbing net, a log trail and climbing mounds, as well as improved safety features. More than 40 new trees have been planted for shade. The project also reused materials, including logs from the city's streetscape program and recovered bluestone kerbs.
Status: Completed and open.
New green space in Southbank
A landscaped public space has opened at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) forecourt in Southbank, turning more than 900 square metres of mostly hard surface into lawn, seating and native planting. The project was first proposed by the community group Southbank3006 and delivered with the City of Melbourne, Creative Victoria and ACCA, with Victorian Government funding reported at $1.5 million.
Status: Completed and open.
North Melbourne Community Hub
At its 15 September meeting, the City of Melbourne's Future Melbourne Committee endorsed the development plan for a new community hub at 91–117 Melrose Street, North Melbourne. It was reported that Council has committed $40 million over four years. The hub is planned to bring together family, youth, ageing and inclusion services and community spaces, with a new public plaza and pedestrian link.
Status: Planning — a detailed planning permit application is still to be prepared. Construction has not started.
Project details can change. Check the City of Melbourne for the latest information.
