Free school holiday program

City of Darwin is running a free and low-cost School Holiday Program from 21 September to 2 October 2026 across its libraries, parks and community venues. Fun in the Parks sessions include dance, cricket, cycling, tennis and silent disco, while the libraries are hosting story times, LEGO Club, STEAM activities and movie screenings. Young people aged 12 to 25 can join gaming, skating and job-readiness sessions. Booking details are on the council's school holidays page.

Aralia Street and Banksia Street roundabout works

Reconstruction of the Aralia Street and Banksia Street roundabout in Nightcliff began in the week of 21 September 2026 and is expected to finish by December 2026, weather permitting. The roundabout is closed to through traffic during the works, with local access to properties maintained and detours in place. The project is part of the council's 2026/27 Road Reconstruction Program. Allow extra travel time and follow the signage.

Record entries for the Young Territory Author Awards

The Young Territory Author Awards, now in their 36th year, received a record 318 entries in 2026, including a record 12 school entries and entries from across the Territory. Judging is under way, and winners will be announced at a ceremony in November.

Reviva Reuse Competition

Residents who have repaired, restored or repurposed an item can enter the 2026 Reviva Reuse Competition, run by Resource Recovery Australia, which operates the Reviva Reuse Shop at the Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility. Entry is free, with a $200 Darwin prize and a $300 national prize. Entries close on Sunday 15 November 2026.
