Transport for NSW is progressing plans for a new train station at Woollahra on the T4 Eastern Suburbs Line. The station is in the planning and design stage — it is not built or operating.

Background

According to Transport for NSW, a station was proposed and partly constructed at this location in the 1970s but never finished. The new project is planned to build on that earlier work.

What is planned

Transport for NSW describes the proposal as:

  • a new accessible station on the T4 Eastern Suburbs Line, with a direct connection to the Sydney CBD that it estimates at around eight minutes
  • integration with existing transport to improve travel options
  • support for up to 10,000 new homes, including affordable housing, through a state-led rezoning around Woollahra and Edgecliff stations

Where the project is up to

Transport for NSW says it has engaged consultants to develop the station design and has carried out site investigation work. It currently estimates that construction will start in 2027 and finish in 2029, and notes that this timing is subject to change. Main construction has not yet begun.

The agency says it will continue to engage with the community as the project progresses.

Why it matters locally

A station at Woollahra would give residents on this part of the Eastern Suburbs Line direct rail access they do not currently have, and it is closely linked to plans for additional housing around Woollahra and Edgecliff. Residents can follow updates and join the project mailing list through Transport for NSW.
