$105 million kickstarts planning for major Subiaco wastewater upgrade
Published · Cenlocal summary
The WA Government has committed initial funding for detailed planning and engineering at Water Corporation’s Shenton Park treatment facility, a project intended to expand capacity for future inner-city housing.

The WA Government has allocated an initial $105 million for detailed design, engineering and site preparation for a major upgrade of the Subiaco Water Resource Recovery Facility at Shenton Park. Its 22 October 2026 announcement describes construction as a later phase.
The facility treats about 65 million litres of wastewater daily from roughly 120,000 homes and businesses. The proposed compact plant at the Lemnos Street site would add around 23 million litres of daily capacity. The existing service area extends from Scarborough to North Fremantle and east to Maylands.
Government projections link expanded treatment capacity with 60,000 future homes over 25 years, including redevelopment areas in inner and western Perth. These are estimates, not completed dwellings. Engineering will also examine odour control and water-recycling options. The funding advances planning and preparation; it is not an announcement that the expanded plant has opened.
