Spring is one of the best times to get out and explore Hobart. The days are longer, the gardens are in bloom and the mountain still carries a dusting of snow. Here are some ideas for making the most of the season.

Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, on the Queens Domain about two kilometres from the city centre, are open every day of the year. From October to March the gates open from 8.00 am to 6.30 pm. Spring is peak season for the gardens' flowering displays, and the historic conservatory is scheduled to reopen in spring 2026 following a major restoration.

Kunanyi / Mount Wellington

Rising 1,271 metres above the city, kunanyi / Mount Wellington is around a 30-minute drive from the CBD and offers summit views across Hobart and far into the Southwest wilderness. Walking tracks thread across the mountain, including beneath the Organ Pipes escarpment. Pinnacle Road to the summit can close in snow, ice or unsafe conditions, so check the road status and any warnings on TasALERT before setting out.

Salamanca and Battery Point

Wander the cobbled lanes between Salamanca's convict-built sandstone warehouses, climb Kelly's Steps into Battery Point and stroll past colonial cottages to Arthur Circus before looping back along the waterfront. On Saturdays, Salamanca Market fills the precinct from 8.30 am to 3 pm.

Parks, tracks and trails

The City of Hobart manages a network of parks, gardens, playgrounds and bushland reserves, with walking tracks and riding trails across the city. Spring wildflowers make it a rewarding season for the local trails.

Opening hours, road conditions and event details can change. Check official websites before you visit.
