City projects, a City Hall opportunity and streetscape trials affecting Hobart's traders and shopping areas.

A quick update on current city news and projects relevant to Hobart's businesses, traders and hospitality operators.
City Hall expression of interest
The City of Hobart is seeking an anchor tenant, venue operator or consortium to manage and activate the heritage-listed Hobart City Hall. The City wants proposals that will increase use of the building, attract more visitors and improve its long-term financial sustainability, while keeping its civic and community functions. City Hall currently hosts around 20 to 25 events a year. Expressions of interest close at 5 pm on Friday 2 October 2026 — details are on the City of Hobart website.
Burnett Street works
Construction is under way on the Burnett Street active transport connections project between Argyle Street and Campbell Street, on the route between North Hobart and the city. The $700,000 upgrade, funded evenly by the City and the Tasmanian Government, adds a shared path, safer crossings and footpath renewals. Works are expected to take around eight weeks, so traders in the area may see changed traffic conditions in the short term.
Collins Street trial continues
The Transforming Collins Street trial, which is testing a more people-friendly streetscape in the CBD, is being adjusted following a review, with raised concrete separators to be replaced. The trial is part of a longer-term vision for Collins Street that the City is developing through its Your Say Hobart engagement portal.
