Malanda residents have an opportunity to comment on the future management of Jack May Park, with Tablelands Regional Council inviting submissions on a draft Land Management Plan.

Council’s announcement, published on 29 September 2026, identifies the reserve as Jack May Park on Mary Street, Malanda. The draft is open for public comment for 28 days, with submissions closing at 5pm on Tuesday 27 October 2026.

What does the draft cover?

According to council, the plan describes the reserve’s existing uses and infrastructure and sets out council’s intentions as trustee of the land. Management is to reflect the reserve’s gazetted use and the Tablelands Regional Council Planning Scheme.

Council also says the draft provides for the continued use of sewerage infrastructure on part of the reserve. The notice is a land-management consultation, not an announcement that new recreational facilities have been approved.

Read the plan and make a submission

The draft can be accessed through the council announcement linked below. A copy is also available to view at the Atherton Customer Service Centre, 45 Mabel Street, Atherton.

Submissions should be sent to info@trc.qld.gov.au or PO Box 573, Atherton QLD 4883, before the closing time. Read the draft itself before commenting, and confirm submission requirements with council.

This consultation gives the community a chance to respond to the proposed management arrangements before the public-comment period ends.
